Cooley Law School won't enroll new 1Ls at Ann Arbor campus, plans faculty layoffs!

I attended the University of Michigan. My dad attended the University of Michigan. Ann Arbor was my home away from home because my grandma lived on campus and my mother grew up in Ann Arbor. This article saddened me tremendously and also makes me proud of my decision to attend school on my terms in this difficult economy. I chose ALU for a multitude of reasons, including a desire NOT to add to my debt load while operating a theatre and working a full time job. This article confirms my choice as I could have attended many first tier schools no doubt, but as an adult, we have to weigh more options -- especially when dad ain't payin the bills! My undergraduate studies were paid for by my father. I did not have that luxury as an adult and so I chose to operate within my means since, initially, I did not think I was going to practice law. I am relieved and happy with my decision. I am proven "right" (for me) again and again. "Law students hoping to start their first year at Thomas M. Cooley Law School's Ann Arbor, Michigan, campus this fall will have to change their plans." Read entire article here.

No More Room At The Bench

January 8, 2010Posted by the LA Times

ARTICLE: No more room at the bench. Published in the LA times January 8, 2010. “The American Bar Assn. allows unneeded new law schools to open and refuses to regulate them. The government should consider taking steps to stop the flow of attorneys into a saturated marketplace.” Remember the old joke about 20,000 lawyers at the bottom of the sea being “a good start”? Well, in an interesting twist, thousands of lawyers now find themselves drowning in the unemployment line as the legal sector is being badly saturated with attorneys.
